Common questions
Before you book New Zealand Fiordland.
Milford Sound or Doubtful Sound?
Milford is the dramatic icon — Mitre Peak, waterfalls off sheer walls, easily reached by road. Doubtful is three times longer, ten times quieter, and reached only by boat-and-bus across Lake Manapouri. We usually pair a Milford day cruise with an overnight on Doubtful.
When is the best time to visit Fiordland?
October to April brings long daylight and hiking season on the Milford and Kepler tracks. Fiordland is one of Earth's wettest places — and rain is a gift here, multiplying the waterfalls a hundredfold within hours.
What wildlife might we see?
Bottlenose dolphins riding the bow, New Zealand fur seals on Seal Rock, and — if you're lucky — the rare Fiordland crested penguin (tawaki). Overnight cruises add kayaking and a naturalist-led tender excursion at dusk.
