When does the Hemis Festival take place?
The Hemis Tsechu falls on the 10th day of the fifth Tibetan month — usually late June or early July (dates shift each year with the lunar calendar). Masked cham dances fill Ladakh's largest monastery for two days; we confirm exact dates and reserve courtyard seats at booking.
How do you handle Leh's altitude?
Leh sits at 3,500 m, so your first 48 hours are deliberately gentle — hydration, short strolls, no climbs. Only then do we head for Khardung La, Pangong or Nubra. Oxygen is carried in every vehicle and hotels keep it on standby.
When is Ladakh accessible?
June to September is the classic window with all passes open and lakes unfrozen. May and October are beautiful shoulder months with fewer travellers. Winter is for the hardy — Chadar-style frozen landscapes and snow-leopard tracking.
